Terminal window xterm is not displayed in VNC

Problem:

After installing/starting the tiger VNC server, and connecting using VNC Viewer terminal window is not displayed.

# yum install tigervnc-server

Solution:

Install xterm:

# yum install xterm

Kill old VNC process and start again:

$ vncserver -kill :1
$ vncserver -geometry 1024x1024

Reconnect using VNC viewer, terminal should be displayed automatically.

VNC Server stops working – /usr/bin/xterm: cannot load font ‘-misc-fixed-medium-r-semicondensed–13-120-75-75-c-60-iso10646-1’

Problem:

VNC server starts successfully, but then stops immediately.

# vncserver

New ‘primrac1.example.com:1 (root)’ desktop is primrac1.example.com:1

Starting applications specified in /root/.vnc/xstartup
Log file is /root/.vnc/primrac1.example.com:1.log

The following output is empty:

# ps -ef|grep vnc|grep -v grep

Troubleshooting

Check the log file for more information:

# cat /root/.vnc/primrac1.example.com:1.log


/usr/bin/xterm: cannot load font ‘-misc-fixed-medium-r-semicondensed–13-120-75-75-c-60-iso10646-1’

Solution:

# yum install xorg-x11-fonts* -y
